US Army National Guard ‘adopts’ San Vicente park

THE U.S. Army National Guard on Guam has “adopted” San Vicente Central Park as part of a Saipan Mayor’s Office island beautification program.

In her remarks at the park on Sunday, Maj. Gen. Esther J. Aguigui, the adjutant general of the Guam National Guard, thanked Saipan community members and the mayor’s office for allowing the U.S. Army National Guard to help beautify the island.

She said the beautiful ocean and fresh breeze of air are what visitors cherish when they’re in the Marianas, and what the islands’ future generation will also enjoy.

“This is a safe place for our children to play, learn, grow and explore,” she said.

She said the CNMI and Guam will continue to work together, adding that the National Guard stands to serve.

“Our soldiers and our airmen will be ready and will be there,” she added.

Saipan Mayor RB Camacho, in an interview, said, “In this critical time of economic challenges, we have to help each other. We need to be united so that our programs will be successful.”

He is also encouraging new graduates who are not able to find a job to enlist in the military and serve their country.

Also on Sunday at San Vicente Central Park, local residents Jose Quitano and Vincent Taitano were enlisted as members of the U.S. Army National Guard.

Both will undergo training in the mainland U.S.

Aguigui is encouraging the youth to serve their country by being part of the U.S. Army National Guard.

“It is the best way to serve your community,” she added. After training, you will come back here and serve your own hometown.”
