Prahar stated that the FSM’s economic performance has continued to disappoint and frustrate everyone.
The gross domestic product is essentially unchanged since 1995.
“We need to look ahead to the end of the U.S. direct financial assistance under the Compact in 12 short years and the possibility of a disruptive fiscal shock at that time as the returns from the Trust Fund will not replace direct financial assistance now being provided,” Prahar stated.
“You only have to look at the impact of such a sock today in the Northern Marianas to see how serious this problem can be.”
