KOROR (Island Times/Pacnews) — Palau welcomed 5,135 visitors in February, reflecting a mixed picture of growth and decline across key tourism markets.
Compared to the same month last year, arrivals surged from several countries. Australia led with a 120% increase, marking the most significant year-on-year jump. Taiwan followed with a 38% rise, while South Korea recorded a healthy 25% uptick. Japan and Europe also posted moderate growth at 11% and 15%, respectively.
Tourism officials attributed the gains to market-specific strategies aimed at boosting Palau’s visibility and appeal in these regions.
Despite the annual growth, overall arrivals declined when compared to January 2025. China, Taiwan and South Korea experienced the largest month-over-month decreases, contributing to the dip.
Japan, however, defied the downward monthly trend. Even without direct air connections, Japanese arrivals continued to grow, underscoring the market’s long-standing interest in Palau’s natural attractions and cultural heritage.
Europe remained relatively stable, suggesting sustained interest from the region’s travelers despite broader fluctuations.
Officials from the Palau Visitors Authority said the data underscores the need to tailor efforts by market, and they are now adjusting marketing strategies and resource allocations in response to evolving trends.
