KOROR (Palau Horizon) – Mason Whipps topped the recent election of members of the Airai State Legislature. He was the top vote-getter among the 12 candidates vying for the nine legislative seats.
During the 6th Airai State General election held March 1,Whipps won the number one post with a total votes of 603. Followed by Leo Ben Teriong with 580 votes, Edna I. Raymond, 533 votes;Techur Rengulbai with 482 votes and Omtei J. Ringang with 480 votes; Jack Masters ranked six with a total of 459 votes ; followed by Henrietta Merei, 443 votes; David Orrukem, 441 votes and Ron Ronny Ngirachereang with a 435 votes.
For the hamlet representative, Clinton “Clint” J. Freeze garnered 51 votes in Ngchesechang hamlet against his two contenders Jimmy Daniel with 34 votes and Hernando “Herr” Iyar with 28 votes.
In Oilkull hamlet, William Ngotel got 52 votes while in Ordomel hamlet won by Junior Teriong with 83 votes against Valerie M. Ikesakes with 79 votes and Marcelino Augustine with 75 votes. In Ngerusar hamlet, Florence Kerai Ngirmekur was the only candidate and she got 91 votes. In the Ngeruluobel hamlet, Meluat Telei garnered 40-11 votes against Deborah Elibosang and for the Ngetkib hamlet, Clarence L. Kitalong won 79-51 votes against Lekelong Secharraimul.
Meanwhile for the gubernatorial seat Victoria “Vicky” Ngiratkakl-Kanai garnered 622 votes.
Airai State has 1,331 registered voters but only 760 have cast their votes for the governor seat. Sixty – four were write in candidates, 73 were blank and one ballot was void.
No schedule has been set yet for the swearing- in of the newly elected Airai State government officials.
