Wind advisory in effect

(CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management) — Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, a wind advisory is in effect on Saipan and Tinian until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Tarps and canopies could be blown over.

These winds are due to a shear line. Wireless Ridge and other higher elevation areas are gusting as high as 45 mph.

Gov. Arnold I. Palacios is advising the general public to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
