Woman denies attempted murder charge

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A woman denied attempted murder charges related to allegedly stabbing a man in the neck while he was sleeping.

On Tuesday, Rose Kosam, 27, appeared in the Superior Court of Guam to answer to charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, special allegations of use of a deadly weapon, family violence and interfering with the reporting of family violence.

At Kosam’s arraignment hearing, held before Magistrate Judge Jonathan Quan, Kosam pleaded not guilty to the charges and waived her right to a speedy trial. She also requested a jury of 12, which was granted by Quan, and the case was assigned to Presiding Judge Alberto Lamorena III.

Stabbing

Kosam was charged earlier this month after police found a man in Yigo lying on the ground, covered in blood, and holding a paper towel to the right side of his neck.

According to the magistrate’s complaint, the victim said he was sleeping when he woke up and felt what seemed like a punch to the neck. He opened his eyes and saw Kosam standing over him as he felt blood coming from his neck.

Kosam allegedly had a knife and chased the victim as he tried to leave. The man later received assistance from a neighbor until the police arrived, the complaint added.

According to the victim, Kosam had a methamphetamine drug addiction, which the victim was trying to help her recover from.

Officers located Kosam, about 10 minutes later, sitting on the ground. Police noted that she smelled of alcohol. Officers also found a red box cutter with a red stain on the tip of the blade, along with blood all over the residence where the man was sleeping.
