Wreath laying and luminary lighting at Marianas Memorial

THE community is invited to join American Memorial Park for a wreath laying and luminary lighting at the Marianas Memorial on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021.

At 5 p.m. a wreath will be laid at the memorial, followed by the lighting of over 300 luminaries to light up the memorial.  The Visitor Center will also have special evening hours and stay open until 7 p.m.

The Marianas Memorial was dedicated in 2004 in memory of the Chamorros and Carolinians of the Northern Mariana Islands who died during World War II.

Caught in a war not of their making, the people of the Northern Marianas, like many civilians throughout the Pacific, became victims of war.

The Marianas Memorial honors Chamorros and Carolinians who lost their lives as a result of war-related causes from the beginning of American aerial bombardment in Saipan on June 11, 1944, to the closure of civilian camps on July 4, 1946. The memorial consists of 10 granite panels listing 929 names.
