According to Debbie Tkel-Sbal, Chief of the Division of Curriculum and Instruction of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Yamaguchi had visited Palau some years ago and had voluntarily conducted volleyball workshops with MOE P.E. specialists and teachers.
“He had worked with P.E. teachers to help students how to play volleyball,” Sbal said. “This time around, he is in Palau as tourist, but has been kind enough to bring along his book to give as a gift for students.”Sbal said the book is handwritten and contains practical elements of the game of volleyball. Further, it is illustrated and easy to understand. It also contains a list of practical ideas that can help improve instruction of the game of volleyball.Sbal said that Yamaguchi has given his permission for the book to be copied and distributed to all schools.During the presentation of the book, Yamaguchi said that he hopes that the students will gain an understanding of the game of volley through this book; and that it would be shared amongst who whish to play the game.Yamaguchi left for Japan on September 22. He said that he would look for other possibilities that he could partake in to help Palauan students achieve.Sbal said the copies of Yamaguchi’s book will be printed and distributed to all schools to help supplement physical education instruction.
