Yap celebrates World Food Day

The theme for this year’s World Food Day was “Food Prices-From Crisis to Stability.” The local theme in Yap was “Let Local Food Be Your Medicine and Medicine Be Your Local Food”.

The World Food Day opening ceremony began at the community center following the FSM National Anthem which was sung by the Yap Interagency Nutrition and Education Council group led by master of ceremony  Martin Runyol.

The Yap Interagency Nutrition and Education Council  is composed of the Division of Agriculture, Yap Women Association, Yap Cancer Coalition Program, Waab Community Health Center, and Yap Institute of Natural Science.

Ted Rutun, vice speaker of the 8th Yap State Legislature, said it is obvious that in the past decades, people without any knowledge of the chronic diseases were healthier than us today, and that it was because they were eating only local food which prevented diseases.
