Yap extends trochus harvest season

The statement has stated that this period may be cancelled if the harvest quota of 150 tons is reached earlier then July 25, 2011.

The authorized open season for harvesting trochus on all reefs, on Yap Main Island went into effect starting at 6 a.m. on July 11 and ended on July 18  at 12 noon. However, since the harvest quota of 150 tons has not been reached, the government extended the trochus harvest season for Yap Main Island.

The four atolls in the Neighboring Islands, which were included in the trochus harvest open season, will continue to harvest trochus until 6 p.m. on Aug. 11, 2011 or when the harvest quota is reached, whichever occurs first.

The four Neighboring Islands that join Yap Main Island in the trochus harvest this year are Ulithi Atoll, Woleai Atoll, Eauripik and Feraulap.
