The department has stated that it will begin charging $25 for the transportation of patients who will need the assistance of the department as a result of an emergency call, medical referral transport and request for discharge transport.
The charges will be imposed on the following:
• Patients who are brought by the ambulance due to an emergency call to the hospital and seen in the OPD unit area (ER, treatment room or laboratory room).
• All in-patients sent off-island on medical referral who are transported to the airport by the ambulance and picked up again if needed for transport to the hospital upon their return from the referral hospital after treatment.
• A discharged patient transported to his/her home by ambulance. The fee must be paid in full prior to the patient being transported by the ambulance.
