Youth drive for “good governance”

“We simply decided to drive around Babeldaob to show our support of Toribiong and Mariur,” said one of the youth. “We believe and trust that they will do as they have said.”

According to the youth, they drove on the Compact Road to promote Toribiong and Mariur and in the process they collected trash along the way and provided help and support to those they met as well.“Our drive began on the west coast part of the Compact Road from KB Shell to Ollei, Ngarchelong and returned via the east coast section of the road,” one of the youth stated. “We collected visible trash that have been strewn on the Compact Road.”The youth, during their return trip, stopped at Bngall Market in Ngarchelong to help the merchants of the market lay asphalt slabs in front of the market.According to one of the drivers of the youth, “the number of transportation limited the number of people who could have gone on this trip.” He said many had reluctantly stayed due to lack of space on the vehicles that were used. The youth brought along with them signs and towed billboards that promoted Toribiong and Mariur.“We did not have to be enticed or paid anything for our efforts,” the youth said, “ the mere fact that we raised the signs as we drove on the Compact Road and that we helped those we met who were in need of assistance should be indicative of our support and confidence in Toribiong and Mariur.  They, we believe, are what Palau needs.”Further, one of the youth added, the trip was more than just a campaign promotion. It is a “testament of our beliefs and our hopes for Palau – good, honest, open, humble, and courteous governance.”
