Youth Post-Convention to be held in July

The post convention was supposed to be held in April, a month after the Youth Convention was held in Palau on May 13 to 15 this year.

“The reason it took so long was because some of the delegates went to a conference in Pohnpei, so we had to postpone it,” said Marbou.

Marbou added that most of the delegates are students so they had to study for their final examinations in school. “Especially during the months of May and June where it’s graduation time,” he said.

Preparations are still ongoing, they still haven’t decided on the venue yet. Marbou said they are already behind schedule that’s why he is working hard with the State representatives to finalize the event.

“The youth will get together and try to finalize the by-laws and create a Palau National Youth Congress,” said Marbou.

During the Youth Conference in March, representatives from different States in Palau have consolidated

in a Resolution some serious issues that concern the youth’s well-being — from providing harsher punishment for child abuse to establishing a permanent government arm that solely deals with youth affairs.

According to Marbou, most of the issues that the youth have recommended to different Ministries are already being worked on. “After this Post-Convention we will work with the National Young Congress to look at the national youth policy.”
