Micronesian presidents hold virtual summit

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services) — On Sept. 9, 2020, David W. Panuelo, president of the Federated States of Micronesia, joined the presidents of the Republic of Nauru, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of Kiribati, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands in a virtual and informal engagement of the Micronesian Presidents Summit.

Topics discussed in the meeting ranged from the sovereign Micronesian nations continued status as Covid-19 free jurisdictions, the region’s solidarity and commitment behind Gerald Zackios as the candidate for the next secretary-general of the Pacific Island Forum, and other matters of regional and international import, such as proposed dates and times for a potential in-person iteration of the 20th MPS.
