Korean visitor growth spurs Guam to request flight expansion

HAGÅTÑA (Office of the Guam Governor) — Seeking to build on the recent, significant uptick in visitor arrival numbers, the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio administration has reached out to the government of South Korea for support in strengthening air connectivity between South Korea and Guam.

In a letter to President Lee Jae-myung, Guam’s leadership writes that Guam has been welcomed and vacationers from South Korea have enjoyed the island’s hospitality for decades. They also note that enhanced air connectivity to the island is vital to our local economy.

“As we continue to strengthen international travel and economic activity, we respectfully request the Government of the Republic of Korea’s support and consideration in helping to revitalize and expand air service between Korea and Guam,” Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio wrote.

Guam welcomed 380,918 visitors from South Korea in calendar year 2025. 51,828 of those arrivals came in December, when Guam saw a 42% increase year over year of total visitors and achieved one of its best December arrivals totals since 2019. So far in 2026 (January), 33,665 Korean passport holders have chosen Guam as their preferred destination.

The resurgence in visitors to Guam has taken place while government, Guam Visitors Bureau, industry stakeholders, and cultural and other groups have worked individually and with one another to spread the word far and wide about destination Guam.
