WITH the Ada gym newly renovated, the NNMI Basketball Federation has announced that it will host the 2023 Michelob Ultra Cup which will start on April 18, Tuesday.
“I know our basketball athletes and fans have been waiting for this for a long time,” said NMIBF President James Lee. “Not only having a competitive basketball league back but also being able to play at a newly renovated facility with new floorings and backboards.”
He added, “Another additional feature is the aircon. It’s going to be pros and cons for everyone. And it’s going to be very interesting to see how our athletes adapt to playing in a colder temperature environment.”
The league will be a men’s open division. Each team must have at least five players who are 21 years old and over. The entrance fee is $450 per team.
There will be total of 14 teams maximum and 14 players per team.
The teams will be divided into two pools with a round-robin format. The top four teams in each pool will advance to a single elimination round.
Teams will vie for the perpetual trophy; $500; five cases of Michelob Ultra; and Michelob Ultra ditty bags for 17 participants (14 athletes and three coaching staff).
The winner of the Uncle Paul Shimizu Overall MVP Award will receive a trophy, $200 cash, one case of Michelob Ultra, a cooler, YETI flask and gear.

Registration, rosters and waiver forms have to be submitted on April 11 on a “first come, first serve” basis.
Lee said NMIBF would like to thank its title sponsor Marpac for helping the basketball federation revitalize the NMI’s signature league, the Bud Cup, which will now be known as the Michelob Ultra Cup.
