Aden Attao finishes second in wrestling competition

ADEN Attao of Boise, Idaho, the 16-year-old son of Jesse Attao and Stacey Hammar and grandson of Jesus and Ramona Attao of Saipan, is this year’s Junior National Greco 285lb Runner-Up.

Aden was among  the over 5,900 wrestlers from 47 states and Puerto Rico who competed this past week in the 2021 U.S. Marine Corps Cadet/Junior Freestyle and Greco National Wrestling Championships in Fargo, North Dakota.

They vied to win a national championship, and a top eight slot to earn All-American status.

Aden wrestled in the Junior (18 Under) 285 lb division.

 In Freestyle, with over 80 athletes in his bracket, he lost his first match 2-3 but won his next seven matches before losing by one point and  missing All-American status by one match with a freestyle record of 7-2.

In Greco, there were 58 athletes in his bracket. Aden won five straight matches including the semifinals by pin or technical superiority.

In the Junior Greco Finals, his opponent was a wrestler from Illinois.

Aden fell short in the championship, falling by pin to finish as 2021 Junior National Greco 285lb Runner-Up.

In April Aden competed at the 2021 UWW Cadet World Team Trials to earn the right to compete at the world championships.

At trials he competed at 110 kg finishing 2nd in Greco and 4th in Freestyle.

Aden trains Greco/Freestyle year round with Suples Wrestling Club and has competed or trained in seven different countries around the world.
