Baseball: NMI clobbers Solomons, 16-0

TEAM NMI secured its third baseball victory in the 2020 Pacific Mini Games on Tuesday by dominating the Solomon Islands, 16-0, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” M. Palacios Baseball Field.

NMI starting pitcher Lamarc Iguel struck out three in two innings while Jacob Babauta shut out the Solomon Islands in the fourth inning. Another NMI pitcher, John Peter Sablan, struck out two.

NMI centerfielder Ben Jones Jr. had two base-hits including an RBI triple in the second while catcher Patrick Alepuyo  tripled in the first inning and hit a single in the bottom of the second.

NMI leftfielder Shane Yamada, for his part, had two singles while designated hitter Darion Jones hit a two-RBI single and shortstop AJ Lizsama drove in a run with a single.

NMI rightfielder and pitcher Lorenzo Sebaklim took over the mound in the top of the fifth inning to finish off the Solomon Islands on a 1-3 play with NMI first baseman Keoni Lizama.

On Wednesday, June 22, the Solomon Islands will face Fiji at 2 p.m.  while undefeated  Palau and Guam will clash at 7 p.m.
