NATIONAL Academy of Sports Medicine personal trainer Jerry Diaz recommends mini workouts to full-time employees who are short of time.
“When scheduling a client’s week-long training regimen, it is important to set a realistic schedule even if it consists of 10 to 20-minute mini workouts each day,” he said.
Such workouts will focus on strength and conditioning using conventional dumbbells, barbells, treadmills or one’s body weight, Diaz added.
He said Tabata or HIIT (high-intensity interval training) can also be included when using one’s body weight or performance training equipment such as a medicine ball and resistance bands.
Keep it simple, Diaz said. Perform short simple workouts by focusing on one to two movements that include core or total body movements. He recommends burpees, squats, pushups, mountain runs, planks or mat exercises.
Remember, he said, to always make it fun. He suggests short videos of Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, HIIT or Tabata workouts.
For variety, one can also try short workouts based on jiu jitsu, karate, boxing, wrestling or judo.
“It’s OK to keep it short but stay consistent daily,” Diaz said.
Squeeze in a short workout instead of being frustrated when you had to skip a full workout, he added.
