BEN Jones Sr. showed that he still has power behind his swing as he grabbed the Amigos Golf Club March Ace of the Month title on Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Jones had a strong start in the two-day tournament. During the qualifying round on March 7, the veteran golfer completed the course with a gross score of 78. But thanks to a handicap of 16, his net score was 62 which gave him the upper hand.
Although the Ace round proved to be a tougher day for Jones, he still ended with a decent output, scoring a gross of 86 which, with a 16 handicap, gave him a net score of 70, a net total of 132 and the March Ace title.
Rick Sablan closed the qualifying round with a gross score of 73. With the help of a 13 handicap, his net score was a comfortable 60. However, he fell short during the Ace round, scoring a gross of 86 which, with his 13 handicap, gave him a net score of 73 and a net total of 133 — good enough for second place.
Paul Kaipat, who had a handicap of 10, finished third with a net score of 64 on day one and 70 on day two for a total of 134.
In the side events, three players won the Closest to the Pin Award: Ben Jones Sr. for holes #6 and #12; Patrick George, hole #8; and Dung Tenorio, hole #15. Each received $180.
