Riders battle for the lead in an Expert Class race of the 2023 Monster Energy Marianas Racing Association Points Race series at Cowtown Raceway Park.
DAVE Celis and Cuki Alvarez continue to lead the Veterans and Expert classes in the 2023 Monster Energy Points Race series after the completion of round 5 Sunday at the Cowtown Raceway Park in Marpi.
In the Veterans Class, Celis could not be overtaken as he led both heats, garnering a total of 50 points or 25 points for each heat.
Alvarez finished second in both heats to secure a total of 44 points while Julian Salalila came in third with 38 points, thanks to a strong third place finish in heat 2, making up for his fourth-place finish in heat 1.
Celis leads the Veterans Class with a total of 200 points after five of seven rounds. Alvarez shadows closely behind with a total of 176 points while Melvin Cepeda, who finished fifth on Sunday, is third overall with 150 points.
In the Expert Class, Alvarez remains the top racer. On Sunday, he took the helm in heat 1 for 25 points while son Shane came in second to earn 22 points. Shane then went full throttle in heat 2, slipping past Cuki as both ended the round with 47 points each.
Because Heat 2 acts as a tiebreaker, Shane was awarded first place while Cuki settled for second place.
Ellery Cruz finished third in heat 2 to edge Dave Celis. Each garnered 38 points.
But despite Shane’s round 5 spotlight, Cuki still holds the overall top spot with a total of 194 points. Shane trails behind with 182 points while Celis is in third with 150 points.
In the Intermediate Class, Corry Pangelinan recorded his fourth 50-point finish to lead the overall standings with a total of 200 points.
Melvin Cepeda, who finished fourth Sunday, is second overall with a total of 150 points while Aric Cruz, who came in second Sunday, is third overall with 148 points.
The rest of the results will be released in Variety’s next editions.
