Cesar Sangalang secures spot in 8-ball tourney finals

CESAR Sangalang secured his sport in the championship of the New Bamboo Bar May 8-Ball Tournament after winning Tuesday’s competition at the New Bamboo Bar of Saipan Vegas.

Sangalang quickly disposed his first three opponents. He first tasted victory in round 1 by defeating Marvin Achas before sending Jerry Soriano down to the losers bracket.

Sangalang then advanced to the semifinals by dispatching Ben Norita.

However, against Jess Farinas, who placed second in the April tourney, Sangalang was outmatched and ended in the losers bracket.

But he quickly resumed his winning ways by eliminating Rey Hermogenes to set up a rematch with Farinas.

Farinas played safe, focusing on defense but Sangalang was relentless and he soon handed  Farinas his first loss of the night to force a third and final match for the title spot.

Despite Farinas’ valiant efforts, Sangalang’s momentum could not be disrupted as he pocketed ball after ball to clinch the first championship spot for the month of May.

Sangalang ended the night with a 6-1 win-loss record. In second and third places were Farinas (3-2) and Rey Hermogenes (4-2).
