CHINESE-TAIPEI (Taiwan) and South Korean players are dominating the women’s singles event of the Crowne Plaza Northern Marianas Open 2023.
Six players from Chinese-Taipei and four from South Korea have advanced to the quarterfinals after the conclusion of day 2 of the tournament Wednesday at the Ada gym.
Chinese-Taipei’s Yi En Hsieh and Lin Shiang fought nail-biting matches but emerged victorious against their respective opponents.
Yi En Hsieh moved forward after outlasting Insyirah Khan of Singapore, 21-19, 25-23.
It was a fairly even match as neither could gain a significant lead in game 1. After several lead exchanges, it was Khan who had the win at the palm of her hands with a 17-14 lead. However, she committed crucial errors in her attempt to defend, allowing Hsieh to bag the win instead, 21-19.
They fought even harder in the second game, but in the end, it was Hsieh who reigned supreme, 25-23.
Lin Hsiang Ti, for her part, joined the winner’s circle by besting Disha Gupta of the U.S., 21-17, 21-9.
In game 1, Gupta gradually heated up and led by as much as three points. Unfortunately, she was unable to defend the quick returns of Ti, who rode the momentum to secure her first win, 21-17.
In their second game, Ti played more aggressively. Gupta could not find an answer and had to settle for defeat, 9-21.
The other Chinese-Taipei players who were victorious were Chiu Pin-Chian who defeated Australia’s Tiffany Ho, 21-9, 21-16; Peng Yu Wei who eliminated Poland’s Wiktoria Dabczynska, 21-11, 21-5; Ruo Hsuan Ko who beat Australia’s Louisa Ma, 22-20, 21-8; and Sung Shuo Yun who outplayed India’s Keyura Mopati, 21-13, 21-13.
For her part, South Korea’s Kim Joo Eun entered the quarterfinals after taking down Chinese-Taipei’s Zih Ling Huang, 21-17, 21-9.
The other South Korean players who were victorious were Kim Ga Ram who powered past her compatriot Lee Se Yeon, 21-9, 21-14; Park Ga Eun who trounced Chinese-Taipei’s Tung Ciou-Tong, 21-17, 21-12; and Sim Yu Jin who outhustled Chinese-Taipei’s Wang Yu Si, 21-13, 21-15.
Also reaching the quarterfinals are Vietnam’s Thi Anh Thu Vu who dominated Australia’s Kai Qi Teoh, 21-10, 21-5; India’s Sri Nitya Naraharisetti via a walkover against Thailand’s Pornpicha Cheoikeewong; Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki who outlasted Chinese-Taipei’s Lee Yu-Hsuan, 21-11, 24-22; Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang who slipped past Chinese-Taipei’s Chen Su Yu, 22-24, 21-15, 21-11; and Japan’s Manami Suizu who eliminated Hungary’s Vivien Sandorhazi, 21-13, 21-17.
