CK Bears pummel Brewers in SBL opener

THE CK Bears manhandled the Brewers, 11-2, Saturday in the opening game of the Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

The CK Bears established control  early in the game.

It started in the top of the first inning when the Brewers’ pitcher, TJ Dela Cruz, failed to throw within the strike zone and allowed two consecutive runners to reach home.

The CK Bears’ Verge Scharmidal then followed up with a sacrifice fly, bringing in team mate Greg Taikawa and earning an RBI along the way for a 3-0 lead.

After dispatching the Brewers  with a 6-3 double-play, the CK Bears added six more runs in the top of the second inning, thanks mainly to the Brewers errors which extended the deficit, 9-0.

Finally, in the the bottom of the second inning, the Brewers  earned two runs via errors made by the CK Bears.

Defensively, the Brewers adjusted well as they kept the CK Bears silent in the third and fourth innings.

 But  the CK Bears scored two runs in the fifth and seventh innings, including Henry Lizama’s solo homerun to secure the win, 11-2.

Cardinals vs Junior Nationals

The second game of the day was won by the Cardinals who bested the Junior Nationals, 9-4.

The Junior Nationals drew first blood in the bottom of the opening inning with Suel Jr.  slipping his way home off an error. But in the top of the second, they committed errors that allowed Cardinals to squeeze in two runs and take control 2-1.

Th Junior Nationals seized the lead in the bottom of the second inning with two runs, but the Cardinals evened the score, 3-3, with an RBI courtesy of Brian Camacho.

The Junior Nationals kept the pressure going as they again seize the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Cardinals delivered in the top of the fifth to tie the score, 4-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Junior Nationals started to lose sight of victory as the Cardinals’ Eli Aughenbaugh, Thorn Sablan, and Pat Tenorio earned an RBI each, followed by two more runs in the seventh and final inning to earn their first win, 9-4.
