DANDAN Middle School managed to grab a semifinal spot in the girls middle school division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League after beating Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, 2-1, Thursday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
It was a fairly even match as both teams filled the first half with back-and-forth action, but neither was able to draw first blood after 15 minutes of play.
However, FMS gradually built enough momentum and finally broke through DMS’ line of defense with Jadine Higgins connecting the shot deep within enemy territory to establish control at the 21st minute mark, 1-0.
In the second half, as soon as the ball dropped, DMS launched an offensive that quickly overwhelmed FMS and created an opening for Jahsmin Ramon who found the back of the net to even the score, 1-1.
FMS tried to regain the lead, but despite many attempts failed to penetrate. DMS, for their part, continued to ride the momentum and were able to crack through the walls once more thanks to Kailani Laniyo whose quick shot gave DMS a 2-1 victory, and a spot in the semifinals.
Today, Tuesday, March 7, DMS will face Hopwood Middle School at 4 p.m. while Saipan International School will square off with Tanapag Middle School.
The winners will advance to the final round which will be played on Thursday, March 9 at the NMI Soccer Training Center.
