THE Saipan Electronic Darts Association Bud Light League will finally resume the rest of the 2021 season starting on Jan. 17, SEDA secretary Warlee Ellama said.
On Nov. 29, 2021, SEDA postponed its games amid a drastic rise in the number of Covid-19 cases on island.
“Some members were not comfortable going out,” Ellama said. “There was also a lot of re-scheduling so we decided to just postpone it.”
Even before the community spread of Covid-19, a couple of teams wanted to drop out already, Ellama said.
Fortunately, those teams and their players are willing to play again once league action is resumed, Ellama said.
Since the start of the global pandemic in early 2020, darts and billiards are among the sports that have been most affected.
Occupancy limitations were imposed on bars which were also hit by curfews and their inclusion on the list of “non-essential” businesses that were ordered to shut down.
Moreover, some of the league’s players were called in for contact tracing while others worked as frontliners.
“All of these affected the continuity of the games so we tried to be as flexible as we could,” Ellama said.
They are now working with the various game locations regarding safety protocols.
“We are encouraging the practice of 3W’s, and if a member is experiencing symptoms, they are asked not to attend the game,” Ellama said.
“We may also require that only players on the team can be at the bar to avoid overcrowding. But nothing is final yet,” he added.
“I would also like to express my appreciation to all our team captains and location bar owners for their contributions and inputs,” he said.
With the darts league to resume mid-January, SEDA is aiming to hold its finale, the Bud Light Cup, by March.
