FENG Chun Jin finished first in the AD2023 Inauguration Golf Tournament on Saturday at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
It was anyone’s game as a double Peoria format was in play but Jin said he focused on one thing: getting the ball in the hole.
On the front nine of the west course, the 31-year-old golf teacher showcased his fundamental skills, shooting one birdie on hole #2 and making only one bogey on hole #9 to end 1-over par with a gross of 37.
On the back nine, Jin improved his swing with his best shot recorded on hole #11. “I shot straight and the ball looked like it was going straight for the pin but it just came out short and I ended putting a birdie,” he said.
He followed up with two more birdies and two bogeys to end 1-below par with a gross of 35 and a gross total of 72.
Jin sported a handicap of 3.60 which gave him a total net score of 68.4 to win the title.
“The course was not really hard today,” he said, but “the green was just a bit slow. It was windy so shooting was a bit hard. [Still,] it was a really good tournament.”
In second place was Sunho Kang who struggled on the front nine and ended with a gross of 46, but he shot a gross of 39 on the back nine for a total gross score of 85. With a handicap of 15.60, his net score was 69.40.
Ming Zhe Li shot a gross of 43 and 38 for a total score of 81. Aided by a handicap of 10.80, he secured third place with a net score of 70.20.
In fourth place was Amier Younis who shot 38 and 41 for a total gross score of 79. With a handicap of 8.40, his net score was 70.60.
Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho finished fifth, shooting 36 on the front and back nines for a total gross of 72. With a handicap of 1.20, his net score was 70.80.
The fundraising tournament’s top prizes were $1,000 for first place; $800, second place; and $600, third place.
