THE ladies of G-Rollers claimed the championship of the Summer Heat 3v3 Basketball Tournament after besting Lady Lasso 14-7 in the finale at the Tinian Gymnasium on Saturday.
The 3v3 format worked well for Kaia Travilla, Shanisse Aldan, Fiona Bucalig and Marianne Cayetano as they overpowered Lady Lasso with finesse and control.
The spotlight was on Aldan as her ability to finish at the rim was impeccable, scoring the first six points of her team.
Lady Lasso’s Pritzel Carreon, Annisa Dela Cruz, Colleen Cing and Emiliana King fought back, but had a tough time getting through the G-Rollers’ line of defense.
Carreon and Dela Cruz did penetrate a few times, scoring two buckets apiece, but the G-Rollers’ Cayetano made a few shots as well while team-mate Aldan delivered four more points as their team stayed in control.
Lady Lasso tried to cook up a rally with Cing and King converting, but the G-Rollers remained out of reach as Travilla joined the scoreboard with a single shot and Aldan added the finishing touches to notch a 14-7 G-Rollers victory and win the women’s division championship.
U20 Division
In the U20 Division, the G-Rollers’ male counterparts claimed the title against the Lasso boys, 19-15.
It was the G-Rollers’ Matthew Richardson who powered through the first half of the action. With the help of teammates Ervin Villarin, Chioni Dela Cruz and Frank Satur, the G-Rollers created several shot opportunities for Richardson to capitalize as he scored a total of 10 points.
However, the Lasso boys’ hustle and teamwork allowed them to go toe-to-toe with the G-Rollers.
Lasso boys Sir Dela Cruz, Robert Reyes and Malinao Palacios kept the ball moving from one team-mate to another as much as possible until one of them was left unguarded to finish the play.
Fortunately for the Rollers, Chioni Dela Cruz sealed the deal by scoring six consecutive points to defeat the Lasso boys, 19-15, and claim the championship.
