Garapan, Kagman triumph in women’s basketball

GARAPAN and Kagman won their games on Saturday and Sunday in the women’s division of the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League at the TSL Sports Complex.

On Saturday, Garapan edged San Antonio, 49-47.

Garapan controlled both halves of the game thanks to the work of Marlene Lumabi, Richelle Kautz and Mikayla Lopez.

In the first half, Lopez and Kautz delivered back-to-back buckets to give their team the lead. San Antonio responded with teamwork as each player contributed on the floor, but they could not stop Garapan’s onslaught led by Lumabi who scored 13 points to keep her team afloat, 34-30.

San Antonio continued to put up a fight with Kaithlyn Chavez and Mia Abuan managing to close the gap. However, Garapan’s Lopez and Lumabi worked the floor to maintain their lead and clinch victory, 49-47.

On Sunday, Kagman routed San Jose, 40-18.

Kaia Travilla led Kagman to victory with 16 points while team mate Yasmeen Younis contributed 13 points.
