GI Yeong Kim topped the Northern Marianas College Golf Open 2022 by finishing first in the Championship Flight division with a gross score of 73 on Saturday at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort East Course.
Kim excelled on the front nine as he maintained a steady swing to shoot 1-under par. He had four birdies on holes #3, #5, #7 and #8, and just one bogey for a gross score of 35.
On the back nine, Kim struggled slightly as he made three bogeys but he also managed two birdies on holes # 12 and #15 to go 2-over par with a gross of 38 and a combined gross total of 73 to secure first place.
The battle for second place was close but it was Jesse James “JJ” Atalig who came out on top against Freddy Salavaria.
Both shared a gross total of 74, but based on the score card playoffs, Atalig had the better front nine output. He clipped four birdies for an impressive two-under par and grossed 34.
A Flight

There was a three-way tie in the A Flight division with Stussy Shiroma, Amier Younis and Ned Norita sharing a gross total of 76.
The score card playoffs broke the tie with Shiroma in first place, Younis in second and Norita in third.
Shiroma finished the front nine with two birdies for a gross of 36 and followed up on the back nine with a gross of 40.
Younis shot a gross of 39 on the front and 36 on the back while Norita shot a gross of 36 on the front and 40 on the back.
B Flight

In the B Flight division, Nick Reyes finished three strokes ahead of the competition.
Reyes had one birdie on hole #5 to end the front nine 1-over par with a gross of 37, and he mirrored his performance on the back nine with one birdie on hole #18 for a score of 39 which gave him a gross total of 76.
In second and third places were Roy Ada with a gross total of 79, and Peter Mendiola with a gross total of 83.
C Flight

In the C Flight division, Daniel Narro claimed the top spot with a gross total of 79. His best run came on the back nine where he shot two pars for a gross score of 39. On the front nine, he scored a gross of 40.
In second place was Anthony Norita with a gross total of 81 while Isaac Aguon came in third with a gross total of 82.
Ladies Flight

Zhimin Jim topped the Ladies Low Gross category with a gross score of 77 while Yuko Togawa grabbed the spotlight in the Ladies Low Net with a gross score of 81. Niramai Koebel finished second in the low net category with a gross score of 93.
Seniors Flight

As for the Seniors Flight division, Joseph Sasamoto brought home the title by shooting 2-under par.
Age is just a number and Sasamoto proved it as he sunk two birdies on the front nine for a gross of 37, and followed up with three more birdies on the back nine for another gross score of 37 which gave him a total gross score of 74.
Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho was in second place with a gross total of 75 while Nick Sablan took third place with a gross total of 77.
