MATTHEW Giovannoni and Rosemarie Chisato came out victorious — and without vomiting — in their respective divisions of the 2nd Annual Michelob Ultra Beer Mile, which was held by Run Saipan on Friday at the Saipan Vegas golf course.
The inaugural event last year was won by Leith Poole, but this time, he had a formidable challenger, Giovannoni.
The two led the competition from start to finish but during the third lap, Poole started to show signs of fatigue as he was left at the checkpoint finishing his third can of beer while Giovannoni was already on his way to complete the final leg.
In the end, Giovannoni finished first with a time of 07:40.85 while Poole came in second at 08:27.62.
Michael Mancao tasted redemption by finishing third. Last year, Mancao led the competition, but during the final lap, he threw up, which cost him an extra lap and the lead. He also failed to make it to the top three list.
This time, he made it to the top three with a time of 08:31.67 while keeping the beer inside his belly.
Women’s division
In the women’s division, last year’s champion Tammy Ackerman, threw up and had to run another lap to finish the race.
For her part, Rosemarie Chisato managed to hold the beer in as she cleared the race within four laps to bag first place with a time of 10:33.10.
Coming in second was Kerri Bauer at 11:10.71 while Ann Bang finished third at 12:05.97.
