THE Hotshots and the Queens of Diamonds will go head-to-head for the ladies division championship of the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League after winning their respective semifinal games Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
The Hotshots earned a spot in the finals by taking down the Lady Eagles, 12-6.
The Hotshots established control in the opening inning as they quickly disposed of the Lady Eagles with three straight outs highlighted by a double play.
At bat, the Hotshots scored eight consecutive runs before their first out. Amid errors on the infield, Keona Reyes took the spotlight with a two-RBI triple while team mate Magofna hit a two-RBI single to give the Hotshots an 8-0 lead.
The Hotshots then added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Lady Eagles finally broke their silence in the top of the fourth and scored another run in the top of the sixth.
However, the Hotshots solidified control with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to maintain the lead, 12-4.
In the top of the seventh and final inning, the Lady Eagles’ Emi Oiterong and Bel Igitol tried to keep their team alive with an RBI each, but failed to prevent the final out via flyball to centerfield which sealed the deal for the Hotshots, 12-6.
Triumphant Queens
For their part, the Queens of Diamonds powered past Kosebakl, 13-3.
Kosebakl drew first blood by scoring one run but the Queens responded with four runs led by Kiana Aldan’s solo homerun.
Kosebakl added two more runs in the top of the second inning but the Queens scored three runs to stay ahead, 7-3.
Their lead only grew larger as Kosebakl failed to score for the remainder of the game while the Queens squeezed in five more runs in the next two innings highlighted by Thelma Mizer’s two-RBI single to end the game with just five innings played, 13-3.
The Hotshots and the Queens of Diamonds will play the first game of the best-of-3 championship series this Sunday, Dec. 11, at 9 a.m. at the Dandan baseball field.
