Isaac Aguon takes MGA Ace of Aces title

ISAAC Aguon is the Marianas Golf Association’s Ace of Aces after a solid performance in a two-day tournament held on April 17 on the West Course of LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort and on May 1 on the East Course.

Aguon, who secured the last ace title for the month of April, started day 1 with a decent stroke, shooting a gross of 46 on the front nine. As he moved to the back nine, his performance greatly improved as he ended with a score of 38 for a combined gross of 84. With a 19 handicap, Aguon’s net score was 65 which gave him the top spot.

On day 2, Aguon had to work harder than ever as Dung Tenorio seized the spotlight with a dominant performance on the front and back nines of the East Course. He closed the front nine with a gross of 35 and maintained efficiency on the back nine with a score of 37 for a combined gross score of 72. Even with a handicap of only 5, Tenorio still stood tall with a net score of 67.

But Aguon kept his eye on the ball and played with a steady swing to gross 44 on the front and back nines for a total gross score of 88. Aided with a handicap of 19, his net score was 69.

Combining Aguon’s days 1 and 2 net scores gave him a net total of 134 — and the Ace of Aces title.

Tenorio placed fourth on day 1 with a net score of 74 but combined with his day 2 net of 67, he was able to clinch second place overall with a net total of 141.

Keone Chariton secured third place by a net score of 70 on day 1 and 72 on day 2 for a net total of 142.

Ron Benavente finished fourth with a net total of 146; Gerald Guerrero was fifth with 151; Calvin Yamagishi, sixth with 153; Patrick Guerrero, seventh with 153; Chris Groves, eighth with 154; Don Hallmark, ninth with 157; Joey Dela Cruz, 10th with 158; Shine Tenorio, 11th with 158; and Chris Leon Guerrero, 12th with 161.

Isaac Aguon went home with the perpetual trophy along with $200 cash prize, a free MGA 2021/2022 membership, free entrance to any golf tournament of his choice, and

“epic bragging rights for the year.”

Election of officers

On May 1, before the start of the second day of the Ace of Aces tournament, MGA also elected its officers who will serve for two years.

Elected were Mel Sablan, Victor Salas, Ned Norita, Dung Tenorio and Charlie Peters. Once they officially organize, they will elect who will be president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and tournament director.

MGA’s golf season runs from May 2021 through April 2022.

MGA holds its monthly aces at the island’s golf courses and is inviting interested golfers to join the club. All they need to do is reach out to a current MGA member for details.  A new member pays an annual fee of $40 while a returning member pays $30.
