SAIPAN Southern High School and Kagman High School’s varsity teams continue their win streak in the boys high school division of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League after crushing their respective opponents on Wednesday at the Marianas High School gym.
SSHS showcased their defensive prowess as they manhandled Agape Christian School, 69-28.
As soon as the first half began, SSHS established control with a full-court press allowing ACS only three points during the first eight minutes of the game.
With each successful stop, SSHS capitalized at the other end with teamwork complemented by smart passes and strong finishes at the rim to push a double-digit gap.
ACS managed to get out of the gutter with better passing but could rely on free-throws only while SSHS extended their range with a handful of three-pointers delivered by Rasg Asuo and Elijah Garcia to further extend their lead, 32-12.
In the second half, ACS started to pick up the pace led by Caleb Cui and Steve Yang in hopes to close the distance. However, SSHS picked up where they left off with Garcia contributing four triples while John Raquepo and Asuo added a bucket each en route to victory, 69-28.
KHS vs SIS
Kagman High School, for its part, trounced Saipan International School, 60-21.
KHS had an explosive first half as each player on the court easily found the bottom of the net for a 41-11 lead. Although SIS tried to stay in the game, they were limited to about 10 points per half.
Despite slowing down KHS’ production, ACS did not have enough scoring opportunities to pull a comeback and had to accept defeat, 21-60.
