JANET “I Changed My Mind” Torres has earned a spot among the elite of the Amigos Golf Club when she secured the May Ace of the Month title Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Torres had a rough start as she struggled to find her way through the fair in the qualifying round, ending the front nine with a gross of 91. Fortunately, she sported a handicap of 22 which gave her a net score of 69.
In the Ace round, Torres had a better swing, and her precision and placement allowed her to greatly improve her gross score to 86. Supported by a handicap of 22, she closed day 2 with a net score of 64 and a net total of 133, five strokes ahead of Frank Sablan who finished second.
Sablan had a steady output throughout the tournament, scoring a gross of 78 on days 1 and 2. With a handicap of 9, he netted 69 on both days for a total net score of 138.
Chris Guerrero also obtained a net total of 138 but was edged in the score-card playoff. The deciding hole was #17 (lowest handicap) where Sablan notched a par and Guerrero scored two over par.
Aside from bagging the May Ace title, Janet Torres also won the Closest to the Pin Award (three feet) for the difficult hole #8.
The other Closest to the Pin winners were Joe Tudela at hole #6; Dung Tenorio, hole #12; and Ed Terlaje, hole #15. Each of them won $150.
