Jerry Soriano wins New Bamboo/Budweiser Battle of the Champions

JERRY Soriano topped the New Bamboo/Budweiser Battle of the Champions 8-Ball Tournament on Saturday at Saipan Vegas.

It was not an ideal start for Soriano as he fell in the very first round against Rowel Mariano.

But Soriano then defeated Ben Norita before taking down Jess Farinas and Randy David.

After losing to Ray Matsunaga in round 3, Mariano faced Soriano in a rematch, and this time it was Soriano who emerged triumphant.

Meanwhile, Matsunaga blew through the first three rounds and the semifinals to reach the final round.

His opponent was Soriano who was able to snap Matsunaga’s rhythm with well-placed shots while playing defense to notch the first win in the championship round.

In game two, Matsunaga failed to step up during crunch time as Soriano continued to deliver with back to back shots en route to victory.

Soriano received the $50 first prize while Matsunaga earned $25.

The New Bamboo/Budweiser Battle of the Champions is held every 45 days at Saipan Vegas.
