FATHER and son Joe and Xerxes Camacho won the low gross title in the Saipan Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Golf Tournament Saturday on the West Course of LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort
The Camachos tee’d off strong, earning their first birdie at hole #2 and prolonging their streak with two more birdies without falling to a bogey to end the front nine 3-under par with a gross of 33.
The duo only improved their strokes on the back nine.
They notched two birdies at holes #11 and #12 and added two more to secure their lead.
Before ending the two-person scramble, the Camachos highlighted the 18th hole with their most impressive shot of the day. The par 5 hole was no problem for the duo as they had a great drive. Their second shot then allowed them to aim for an eagle.
The putting range was not a problem for them as well as they dropped the ball with precision to win the low gross title.
“It was a good feeling today, especially to be paired with my dad again,” Xerxes Camacho said.
Coming in at second place were Harry Nakamura and Louie Tilipao. The two held the lowest score on the front nine with a gross of 31 and five birdies. However, the back nine proved to be a tougher stretch as they struggled to stay efficient, scoring a gross of 55 for a total of 65, good enough for second place.
Filling the top three were Hoon Joung Park and Sun Ho Kang.
Park and Kang had a slow start, closing the front nine with a gross of 36 but managed to make up for it on the back nine with six birdies to end the tournament with a score of 30 and a gross total of 66.
