JOE I. Sablan closed the Saipan Golf Association’s 2022 season with a bang by outshooting Larry Deleon Guerrero in a scorecard playoff to win the December Ace of the Month title on Jan. 15 at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort west course.
Sablan showcased a steady performance throughout the tournament as he closed the front nine with a gross of 46 and struggled slightly on the back nine with a gross of 48 for a gross total of 94. With a handicap of 24, his net score was 70.
Larry Deleon Guerrero, for his part, scored 50 on the front nine and 42 on the back for a total gross of 92 which, with a handicap of 22, gave him a net score of 70.
Based on the scorecard playoff, however, Sablan edged Deleon Guerrero who settled for second place.
In the battle for third place, Nick Sablan came out victorious in a scorecard playoff against Rick Kautz after both recorded a net score of 77.
In the optional play, Kautz was the Closest to the Pin on hole #13 and had the Longest Drive on hole #18 while Nick Sablan ruled on hole #2.
SGA’s other 2022 Aces of the Month are Edward C. Sablan (January), Frances M. Sablan (February), Nick C. Sablan (March), Larry I. Deleon Guerrero (April), Alex Tudela (May), Mariano Fajardo (June), Rick Kautz (July), Das Krishnan (August), Ed Manibusan (September), Tony Benavente (October) and Jung Eun Teack (November).
The 2022 Aces will compete in the SGA Ace of Aces Tournament set for Jan. 28 and 29, 2023.
As for the January 2023 Ace of the Month competition, it will be held on Jan 29.
