JOE Torres shot a net total of 139 to win the Amigos Golf Club’s August Ace of the Month title on Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links east course.
The club president, Torres entered the two-day tournament with confidence. In the qualifying round held Sunday, Aug. 7, he scored a gross of 83. With a 13 handicap, his net score was 70.
In the ace round on Aug. 21, Torres slightly improved his swing and ended with a gross of 82, a net score of 69 and a net total of 139 to top the tournament.
Fred Salavaria came close to snatching the title but fell short by just one stroke. He shot a gross of 84 on day 1. With a 9 handicap his net score of 75. On day 2, he notched a gross score of 74 and a net score of 65 for a net total of 140.
As for the side events, the Par 3 winners were Syl Ada on hole #4, Ed Manglona on hole #6, Ben Jones Jr. on hole #11, and Jay Muna on hole #15. Each winner received $140.
