Joshua Atalig makes the cut in US golf tourney

JOSHUA Atalig on Tuesday made the cut in the qualifying round of the American Junior Golf Association Junior Golf Tournament at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club in Marysville, California.

The 15-year-old advanced through the qualifier after beating the competition in a playoff.

Atalig performed steadily, committing only two bogeys and making two birdies on the front nine.

Although he also made bogeys on the back nine, he finished the round with a birdie on hole #18 for a gross score of 74 to finish in a tie for ninth place in the 52-player tournament.

Only five of them could advance to the next stage, so Josh had to enter a playoff. He made the cut after four holes by splitting the fairway and hitting his second shot four-feet away from the hole to score a birdie.

“The competition was good.” Atalig said. “I’m relieved to make the cut. After I finished my first nine holes, I knew I had a good chance if I took it low on the back,” he added.

More information will be posted in Variety’s next edition.
