KOBLERVILLE Elementary School 1 claimed the IT&E Interscholastic Co-ed Elementary School Basketball League 2021-2022 championship on Saturday after defeating their siblings, Koblerville Elementary School 2, 25-21 at the Marianas High School gym.
The league frontrunner, KoES 1 excelled once again because of the teamwork and unselfish play of its skilled hoopsters.
In the championship match, KoES 1’s Leon Duenas lit up the score board by drawing a foul that allowed him to notch two points from the free-throw line.
KoES 2 fought back with Kelvin John scoring his team’s first two buckets.
However, KoES 1’s Jairius Pangelinan’s six points and Andrei Tenorio’s four extended their team’s lead before halftime, 16-8.
To their credit, KoES 2 did not show any signs of giving up.
During the second half, KoES 2’s John picked up where he left off by delivering four consecutive points, including an and-one play to rekindle his team’s morale.
While successfully preventing KoES 1’s main scorers from finding their rhythm, KoES 2 slowly worked their way back within reach led by Marcuz Nego who scored five points.
Unfortunately for KoES 2, their efforts were not enough. With Leon Duenas out of the picture, KoES 1’s Tenorio, Dezmon Camacho and Kyler Laniyo stepped up when they were needed most, scoring six points to maintain their team’s lead en route to a 25-21 victory.
Before the championship round, KoES 1 defeated Garapan Elementary School 2, 24-14, while KoES 2 outscored Tinian 18-9.
