KoES 2 wins co-ed volleyball title

KOBLERVILLE Elementary School 2 bagged the co-ed elementary school volleyball title after outplaying Oleai Elementary School 2, 21-12, Saturday at the Chacha Oceanview Middle School field.

KoES 2 established control early thanks to the consecutive aces made by server Marina Masga, who gave her team a 7-2 lead.

OES 2 then managed to force KoES 2 to commit an error.

With OES 2 serving, they  scored six straight points to take the lead. This was followed by a back-and-forth action that resulted in a 12-12 deadlock.

However, when it was KoES 2’s turn to take hold the possession, they  never looked back as OES 2 failed to find an answer to the Kobler onslaught.

It was KoES 2’s Gavin Rogolifoi who had the spotlight as he continuously served without error, scoring the next nine points to secure  a 21-12 victory for his team.

KoES 2 is led by head coach Joe Etpison and its players are Rayvan Secharmindal, Jon Rebuenog, Mailee Santos, Phaungwodee Claridayles, Marina Masga, Morris Atalig, Dermalin Hamo, Gavin Rogolifoi, Dezmon Camacho and Greg Teregeyo.

Before the championship match, KoES 2 defeated OES 1, 21-13, and overpowered sister team KoES 1, 21-11, to earn a spot in the finals.

OES 2, for their part, faced Garapan Elementary School 1 in the semifinals. OES 2 pulled a huge late-game rally with six straight aces to beat GES 1 and earn a ticket to the finals.

In an interview, KoES2 head coach Joe Etpison said the last time KoES won the title was two years ago, adding that they lost to William S. Reyes Elementary School last year.

This year, he said, “practice and teamwork were key factors — we were able to correct each other and, of course, have fun.”

Etpison said their main focus was to get the ball over the net.

It will be the last year in elementary school for most of the KoES2 players so Kobler will have a lot of new players when it defends its title in 2023.
