Lady Eagles rally past Kosebakl in softball league

THE Lady Eagles came back from behind to edge Kosebakl, 16-15, in the Ladies Division of the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.

Both teams started slow with a run each in the opening inning for a 1-1 deadlock.

In the bottom of the third inning, Kosebakl took advantage of the Lady Eagles’ errors and squeezed in three runs for a 4-1 lead.

Although the Lady Eagles retaliated with a solo run in the top of the fourth, Kosebakl bagged four runs highlighted by Mardina Kaipat’s 3-RBI triple and Heather Kladiku’s solo homer to extend their lead, 8-2.

Kosebakl seemed to have the win in the palm of their hands as they scored two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings while the Lady Eagles could score one only.

However, in the top of the seventh and final inning, the Lady Eagles suddenly exploded with successive hits. Singles and doubles filled the stat sheet, paired with errors made on the defensive end, that allowed the Lady Eagles to amass 13 runs for a 16-10 advantage.

Kosebakl did not give up the fight as they scored five runs but the Lady Eagles clinched the three outs needed to secure the win by a hair, 16-15.

Winners, too

The Queens of Diamonds joined the celebration after besting the Tokahao Ladies, 12-6.

Rachel Salalila led the Queens  with three hits and two RBIs while Sablan earned two RBIs.
