LAKAY notched their second consecutive win in the Saipan Centennial Lions Club Basketball League after a dominant performance over MDC 85-58 Friday at the TSL Sports Complex.
Lakay fired up right from the start as each player had a feel for the ball and was able to contribute to a nine-point lead in the opening quarter. Most of the action was seen inside the paint led by Santos with seven points while Gant, Rabauliman and Palacios added two buckets apiece. However, that was not the extent of Lakay’s arsenal as Basa chipped in his share from beyond the arc, knocking down two triples to give his team a 22-13 lead.
MDC tried to find their rhythm but continued to struggle as only Elchico, Montes and Tengco were reliable on the offensive end. They were also unable to put a stop to Lakay’s assault as the rest of the team started to light up the scoreboard. Ong and Capalad found their first buckets of the night for a combined six points while Basa and Natividad stayed consistent from the three-point line as Lakay took a 20-point deficit.
MDC fought harder in the third canto, scoring 18 team points, but they still trailed by double digits.
In the final quarter, MDC tried to match Lakay’s output but to no avail. Lakay’s lead was way out of reach, 85-58.
Paradise Realty vs Bluehauz Ali’i
Paradise Realty also defeated Bluehauz Ali’i by a double-digit margin.
In the first quarter, both teams were equally matched. Paradise Realty’s Dave Sablan led the pack with nine points while Pete Lizama, Jay Sablan and James Camacho combined for an additional nine points.
Bluehauz Ali’i had a similar output with Jaymark De Guzman, Bryan Bernardo and Marlon De Dios tallying 15 points for a one-point lead, 19-18.
The second half was when Paradise Realty established control. Dave Sablan continued to stand out at the frontline as he carried the team with 10 points — including two triples. Team mates Airson Atan and Lizama also contributed a bucket each from beyond the arc.
Bluehauz, for their part, started to fall apart offensively, as only Brendon Talania and Elmer Esdrelon could find the bottom of the net.
Bluehauz, trailing 51-61, tried to cook up a rally in the final quarter, unloading 27 team points thanks mainly to Esdrelon, De Dios and Talania.
But Paradise Realty’s Dave Sablan was still on fire, delivering nine points and was supported by the rest of his team which eventually put Bluehauz out of their misery, 85-69.
