Leowell Cristobal makes a successful lift in the clean & jerk portion of the men’s 67kg weight class in the Pacific Mini Games on June 21, 2022 at the Marianas High School gym.

Cristobal competed in the Open Men’s 67kg weight class, showing improvement in nearly every attempt.

In the snatch portion, he  recorded a lift of 85kg and went up to 91kg before finishing with 96kg. Then in the clean & jerk portion, he upped the ante with his first lift at 120kg which he followed with 127kg before pushing his limit unsuccessfully for a failed lift of 134kg.

But Cristobal’s best snatch of 96kg and clean & jerk of 127kg combined for a total weight of 223 allowed him to clinch the overall top spot.

“I’m pretty happy with my results,” he told Variety. “I’ve been putting in the work and I felt like it showed. I was 5/6 of my lifts, got competition PRs, and was the best lifter in the entire meet.”

He added, “The only lift I missed was my last when I couldn’t control 134kg overhead for the jerk.”

“For the record,” said CNMI Weightlifting President John Davis, “Leowell is, by far, the CNMI’s most prolific weightlifter.”
