10th HANMI Golf Classic set for June 4

This year’s tournament will be open to the first 144 paid registrants.

Tournament chairman Das Krishnan said, “We encourage all golfers to mark their calendars for the 10th HANMI Charity Golf Classic Tournament.”

According to HANMI, cash and numerous in-kind prizes await the winners, and proceeds of the tournament will be contributed to community charities.

“As in years past, we’re looking forward to offering another round of enticing prizes both on the course and at our awards banquet raffle.  Last year we had more interested golfers than available slots, so we encourage everyone to register early,” Krishnan said.

Registration forms will be available shortly at Coral Ocean Point, Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Hyatt Regency Saipan, and Marianas Country Club.

Early bird tournament fee is $100 for payments by June 1.  The fee includes green fee and the awards banquet.  The fee increases to $120 on June 2.  For an additional $20, players may also compete for nearest to the pin, most accurate drive, and longest drive. The tournament will start at 7 a.m.

The tournament features six categories: Championship Flight, A Flight, B Flight, C Flight, Seniors (55 years-and-over), and Ladies. Players in the Championship Flight must have 0-5 handicaps, while those in A Flight are 6-10 handicappers. The B Flight is for players with 11-17 handicap, while C Flight are for players with handicap above 18.

First place winners of all flights will receive $500 and a trophy; second place finishers will receive $300 and a trophy; and third place winners will receive $200 and a trophy.  First place winners will also receive an overnight stay at a HANMI member hotel.  Winners (champions and runners-up) for the female golfers will be determined using the Double Peoria handicap system.

Previously, HANMI supported the Victims Assistance Fund benefiting victims of the 2009 shooting incident in Saipan, the Dept. of Public Safety bike patrol program, Crimestoppers, PAWS, the Chinatown skatepark, Saipan Marathon and other community causes.
