13 teams in for BMS Softball Tournament

According to Edwin Chiokai, the tournament committee chairman, time had dictated the number of teams that could play in the tournament.

“We registered teams on a first-come-first-serve basis,” Chiokai said. “We regrettably had to turn down some teams; otherwise, the tournament would have turned into a league.”Chiokai further added that the committee only had a day and a half – approximately 12 hours of game time -into which tournament games could be scheduled and played.  Each game is allotted about an hour of playtime; and to accept more than 13 teams would not have been practical.Chiokai said that based on the rosters of the registered teams, the tournament has been divided into two divisions, an open division (for players below 40) and a masters division (for those aged 40 and beyond). The teams will play in the tournament are: K-Angels (open and masters); Ngarchelong Rainbows (open and master); Chollywood (masters only); Ngaremlengui (open and masters); Aimeliik (open and masters); Airai (open and masters); and Meyuns (open and masters. The teams will all play in a single elimination format on Saturday.  Games are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at BMS baseball field in Ibobang, Ngatpang.“At the end of the games Saturday, the top four teams from each division will advance to play in the playoff and eventually, the championship games on Sunday,” said Chiokai. The tournament is the only major activity of the schools 35th anniversary. A raffle drawing, featuring two grand prizes of round trip tickets to and from Guam or vice versa and numerous other consolidation prizes, will run randomly during the duration of other activities on Sunday.“A booklet of six tickets for the raffle drawing costs $5,” said Chiokai. “I, on behalf of the tournament committee, invite everyone to purchase a booklet of tickets, drive to Ibobang on Sunday, witness the best softball teams play, eat free lunch, and possibly win a prize.”
