The tournament will consist of team, singles, and doubles categories. Teams with three wins are declared the victor.
With confirmation from the Korean Table Tennis Association, seven players – three females and four males – will represent Korea next weekend. Five players will arrive from Guam.
Each association will form two teams – A and B – with three to four players. Teams within each association will not face each other. Singles and doubles games will be played in a single elimination format.
The Marianas Amateur Table Tennis Association – under team Saipan – will be represented by first-time participants David, Steven, and Todd (CNMI tennis national player). For the fourth time, MATTA will join forces with the Korean Ping Pong Association of Saipan.
Team Saipan will also include MATTA president Steve Lim, Budhi Gurung, Jean Shi, Edward, KPPA president Park, Kim, Aan, and Caw.
Joining team Tinian are Mark Ma, Luke Lu, Charlie Cheng, Su Yong dong, Robin Lu, Alfred Yue, and Liyang Wei Bin.
Tinian will only form one team this year. Players from Korea and Guam will split into two groups. Team Saipan break down into three (A, B, and C).
Although Olympic standards require a best-of-nine series, the two-day competition will not provide sufficient time for nine games to be played.
Due to unavoidable circumstances, Tinian was unable to host the goodwill tournament this month. Tinian is unable to transport its ping pong tables and other equipment due to lack of ferry services.
Last November, team Korea bagged trophies in the team, singles, and doubles categories.
Games are open to spectators.
