IT&E players are off to a great start in the 2024 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League, earning their second straight win by beating PSS, 82-79, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Saturday.

IT&E’s Marlon Torres kicked off the team’s run with two buckets while Daniel Madreo and Ervin Villarin took over with eight and five points, respectively.

PSS played as one and emphasized ball movement and pick-and-rolls to create shot opportunities. However, it was their defense that gave them the upper hand as they focused on IT&E’s three scorers and turned each successful stop into made shots to widen their lead, 27-21.

Defense continued to highlight the second period while PSS’ Reginald Pascual led his team’s offense. However, IT&E’s Madreo rekindled the run as he scored eight consecutive points while John Singca put in five to cut PSS’ lead, 36-38.

In the second half, PSS showed signs of fatigue even as IT&E’s Villarin returned to action, knocking down a triple while Jerald Rivera, Singca, Madreo continued to attack the rim with ease to grasp the lead, 60-57.

The back-and-forth battle continued throughout the fourth and final quarter with PSS drawing a handful of fouls and chipping away from the free-throw line while Mi’i Tekopua and Melvin Sakisat took over the last possessions.

But Villarin answered with three clutch shots from beyond the arc to keep his team afloat. With only seconds left on the clock, PSS was forced to foul  and although Madreo and Singca split their free throw attempts, it was enough to secure the win, 82-79.

Federallys vs CUC

Joining the celebration were the Federallys, who outhustled CUC, 65-54.

As soon as the Feds established dominance, they never looked back. It started in the first quarter with Chris Sanchez and Timothy Wesley leading the run with a combined 11 points while Danny Fejeran, Jeff Che, and Terrence Leung joined the onslaught in the second period to push a double-digit lead, 35-25.

In the third quarter, CUC started to find their range, unleashing triples with Franciso Lieto, Gerald Mamis, and John Nekaifes at the frontline. But it was not enough to disrupt the Feds’ momentum as Che sank three consecutive triples while Leung carried the team in the fourth quarter with eight points en route to victory, 65-54.
