200 children to attend 2008 Day & Sports Camp

The camp, according to organizer, Joey Dela Cruz is open to boys and girls age six to 12.

The children will be grouped according to age and will engage in variety of sports, leisure, health, fine arts and other fitness activities, all coed.

The day camp activities that will be held on July 14 and July 21 include bead making, weaving, singing, canoeing, swimming and dancing.

The sports camp activities that will be held on July 22 and August 1 include soccer, tee ball, track and field, volleyball, golf and basketball.

The philosophy of the camp, Dela Cruz said puts emphasis on the successful growth of each camper, instilling values, morals and respect.

And with incidences of obesity, heart disease, physical inactivity and diabetes on the island, Dela Cruz said it their mission to foster a spirit of physical activity and recreation among the campers so that they make health and wellness a part of their daily lives.

The camp will have staff members and counselors who are carefully selected to be positive role models for the young campers.

Well trained in instilling self-esteem within an enriched and safe environment, the staffers are certified in first aide and CPR, water safety and coaches.

To reserve a slot for a child, parents or guardian must fill out a registration form and pay one time non-refundable fee of $20. It will be accepted on a first come, first served basis at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym office.
